Connecting Back To You

The day you became a mom your focus totally shifted away from you and onto that fabulous new little person who just entered your life. It happened the second you held your baby in your arms for the first time. For the last 18 years, it’s been all about them. Their needs. Their wants. Doing your best to make it happen for them.

It makes sense when the day arrives that your kids are no longer living at home and mom duty isn’t demanding your 24/7 attention, you’re going to find yourself in some unfamiliar territory. There’s nobody to check in with! What do you do now? Great question. Can you even remember the last time you thought to check in with yourself about what you want? This is one of the first challenges you get to navigate!

Yes! The habit of checking in with yourself. I know. Sounds simple, right? Maybe you remember doing that before you had kids? Or maybe, now that you think about it, it’s not something you’ve ever done? Building this habit, like any other new habit, is going to take some practice. In fact, it might take extra practice because this is about shining the light on you.

I could give you a big long step by step process to follow, but instead, let’s start with just the first step. Ask. Yup. That’s it. Give that job to yourself. Nobody else is responsible for your wants/needs and it’s your turn to completely own this. Get used to asking yourself – and then listening for the answer – and then acting on it. Because you can. Because tit’s time to start unfolding your life.

What do I want right now?

What do I need right now?

What steps can I take to create that?

“Listening to your heart is not simple. Finding out who you are is not simple. It takes a lot of hard work and courage to get to know who you are and what you want.” ~ Sue Bender
