It’s A Bumpy Ride

Empty Nesting. Your transition from life with kids at home to mom-on-the-sidelines is bound to be bumpy, and truthfully, there’s just no other way to navigate through this. It’s turbulent. Why? Well – because like anything that tugs at your heartstrings as much as launching your kids does, one day we’re up and the next day, not so much. Bumpy.

The feels of January may have caught you by surprise. After all, you already went through this the first time back in August or September. You had every reason to believe that you had made it through the toughest part. And then … they came home for the holiday break. What’s noticeable about round 2 in January? Although it probably feels at least a little different because you have your fall launch experience under your belt, here you are again. All the turbulent feelings have re-emerged. Are you wondering whether you should be getting used to this by now? It’s different for each one of us, but if you’re like most, the bumpy ride continues because this is a big transition. Just like on a flight with turbulence, put on the oxygen mask!

What does that look like? Here are some suggestions:

Stay present to what is. Notice what you’re feeling. No need to judge. Just observe. It’s the first step toward figuring out what you want next.

You can get started on creating your own personal and meaningful-for-you Empty Nest Project. What is that, you’re asking? It’s your LIFE! It’s wide open possibilities and possibly the most exciting chapter for you so far. I’ve created a worksheet just for you and you can grab your copy by clicking on this link.

There are some good resource books about Empty Nesting. Here are a couple I’ve found helpful:

From Mom to Me Again: How I Survived My First Empty-Nest Year and Reinvented the Rest Of My Life by Melissa Shultz

Chicken Soup for the Soul: Empty Nesters: 101 Stories about Surviving and Thriving When the Kids Leave Home by Jack Canfield.

And most important, remember there is a community of like-minded women (right here!) who are going through the same chapter of life that you are. You don’t have to walk through this alone. January, for many of us, is a re-boot month. Set aside all the new year hype about having your 2019 goals ready to take on, and be realistic. Whether or not you’re an empty nester, right now is about setting some gears in motion to move your life forward.

Reach out for support. Consider working with a coach who has already walked through some of this ahead of you. If you have a thousand questions about what coaching with me could offer, schedule a complimentary, no obligation Q&A call. I’ve got 30 minutes just waiting for you! As always, I’m here to support you!
