Letting Go …

When we don’t know how to do something, it’s probably going to feel hard. So let me ask you – have you ever gone through letting go of your kid before? Packed them up and moved them out of your home? If you’re answering no, I’m thinking this letting go thing is going to feel really, really hard for you. It was pretty bewildering for me.

What if I told you that you’ll eventually adjust? How long will that take, you’re asking? I can’t answer that because it’s different for every one of us. All that emptiness, stillness and quiet is going to feel unfamiliar at first. Give yourself some time – as much as you need – to be in that place. You’re going to notice all kinds of raw feelings, which of course goes without saying. Let yourself feel them. Don’t let people rush you. Or suggest you just need to stay busy so you’ll forget about how much you miss your kid. Or that you just need to snap out of it because it’s ridiculous to feel that way. It’s not ridiculous.

Eventually, in time, you’ll reach a place where you’re ready to be in a different space. What will that be like? Maybe one that feels like possibility. Options. A space where you ARE ready to think about what’s next instead of staying in the space of constantly thinking about how weird it feels to have an empty house. Maybe you’ll even start to get excited about the fact that you now have the freedom in your life to intentionally choose to build a plan for what you want your life to look like going forward. How cool is that?

Does building a plan sound too big? Too big to start? Well then, let’s break it down. You can start with something small – a change that you want to try incorporating into your life routine for just the next few months. Something new you want to try. See if it’s a fit. You can attach a timeframe to it if you want and commit to giving the change a try until the end of the year. If you’re happy with the results, carry it into 2019. If not, discard it and try something else.

I’m posting this just a few days before another round of Launch Week for Moms starts on August 20th. You’ve still got time to sign up and I’m inviting you to do just that! It’s a FREE 5-day course that can get you started on building your plan. If life feels too busy right now, sign up anyway.
