Transition

Are you a Mom?
Do you have someone at your house heading off to their first year of college?

That means you’re in transition!

According to the National Center for Education Statistics, 3.6 million students are expected to graduate from high school in 2017-2018. So as the mom of one of them, welcome to the tribe!

You’re going to be noticing some pretty raw and tender feelings in the next few months. Graduation is a time of celebration. But that’s going to be followed by the inevitable next part – letting go. Whether you’re going to be dropping them off at college, packing them up for the big adventure they’ve been dreaming of, helping them move into their first apartment, or launching them into their next life steps …

… it all means you’re going to be right here, and … they’re not. Yep – some pretty tender feelings.

Now what???

I’ve been thinking about that. The answers are as unique as each one of you. One thing I know for sure – you’re not alone. Transition is the process or a period of changing from one state or condition to another. That’s exactly what’s happening in your life right now. You’re transitioning from Mom Life to the rest of your life. This, Mom, is BIG.

Maybe you haven’t given it much thought, or weren’t ready to start thinking about what this is going to feel like. I get it. Transition of any kind can feel pretty bumpy, and if you’re like me, you’re not exactly enthusiastically welcoming this one with open arms. Well … maybe some parts … like less laundry, less driving, more space in your life …

That’s what I noticed first. More space. Maybe you already have a plan for this transition time. If you do, I’m in awe! It completely snuck up on me. I was way too busy doing Mom Life for me to realize what this was going to mean in my life.

So what are you going to do?

On the one hand, you’ve got all the time in the world. On the other hand, the last 18 years of your life just flew by and the next 18 are going to go even faster. Even if this doesn’t feel like the “right” time because you’ve got a bazillion things going on, I’m here to tell you that now is actually a great time to show up and start taking care of you, and here’s one way you can get started:
